Finlandia Village is a residential aged care facility owned by the Australian Finnish Rest Home Association Inc (AFRHA).
AFRHA is a not-for-profit organisation, incorporated in Canberra as a ‘Public Benevolence Institution’.
The voluntary Board of the Association currently comprises nine elected and three appointed members of the Australian Finnish community.
Finlandia Village commenced operations around 25 years ago following lengthy fundraising activities and the hard work of the Finnish Community Australia whose members were determined to provide a retirement home primarily for ageing Finns.
At present the Village comprises 45 units for persons requiring various levels of care, including some dementia specific places.
Within the Village grounds there are also 23 Independent Living Units catering for people who choose to live in a secure community environment under the auspice of the Retirement Village Act 1999.
Additionally, the Finnish Home and Community Care service Finncare manages homecare services for the local ageing community and in particular, elderly Finnish clients residing in areas of Brisbane located between Redcliffe to Ormeau.
For three days of the week, AFRHA offers an on-site Centre-Based Respite Care program in its special purpose building in conjunction with its on-site allied health services.
